Are you a people person who enjoys a fun and rewarding project?

Braille House is looking for Braille Awareness Show Presenters.

About us

Braille House has been producing and providing braille and other tactile materials to Australians for 125 years. We continue to engage the general community through our Braille Awareness Shows and other activities that support our extensive braille library and production facility.

Braille House is looking for people to run our regular Braille Awareness Shows in libraries, schools and other community spaces to inform and educate the general public of all ages about braille and how it helps people with vision loss to read. All materials and training provided and you will be part of a small team of volunteer show presenters.

We are looking for fun people to present these 40-minute shows in Greater Brisbane or South East Queensland.

About you

No specific experience and no braille reading skills required, just a good attitude and a eagerness to help your community.

You are willing to give new things a try. You may have experience being in a classroom setting (although not essential).

You are someone who is fun, learns new things easily and wants to make a difference.

You have the ability to travel to various locations in South East Queensland, and are available at various times Monday – Friday between 9am and 3pm. (Most shows are in the middle of the day)

You may have experience with performance or theatre or maybe you just have an outgoing personality and are interested to try something new.

You will be required to hold a “Working with Children” card. (We can help you with this if required)

The positions

These volunteer positions are on an on-call basis, and (once you have learned the show) you will only be required when a show is booked.

The shows run for 40 minutes and they are a mix of education and interactive elements, all designed to teach the audience more about braille and how people access tactile information.

All materials will be provided and you will just need to engage the audience (mostly children) to get involved.

You will be provided with scripts and show overviews, we will also run through the shows to ensure that you are comfortable with the content.
