Raising funds for Braille House is a fun and rewarding way to make a difference in supporting children

Fun Run Fundraising for Braille House

On 13 November, a group of runners from Brissie Running Women got together for a Sunday morning trail run around Mt Coot-tha, followed by a breakfast BBQ. Everyone who stayed for breakfast contributed $10 with all proceeds to Braille House, towards “building a collection of brailled books for 0-4 yr olds who are blind or have low vision or who have parents who are blind or have low vision so they can read to their kids.” Just over $70 was raised for Braille House. Without too much organisation, it was a simple and easy way to raise money while having a lot of fun …and keeping fit! (Cints – Fundraiser)

and adults who are blind or have low vision to achieve their life’s goals.

Your individual, corporate or group’s efforts enables Braille House to continue to do what it has done since 1897  ….  teach and create braille.

Braille is brilliant because it empowers people who are blind or have low vision to be literate.  These tiny dots support them to live independently, attain their desired level of education, increase their chances for employment and enable them to interact with communities just like everyone else.

Braille House Craft-a-thon

A great day was had by all at the first Braille House Craft-a-thon. Ten crafty ladies laughed, had fun and spent hours knitting teddy bears, sewing cards and quilting various items. This simple fundraising event created new friendships whilst raising around $500 for Braille House. (Sally – Fundraiser)

To get you started, here’s some suggestions  …

Fun Runs & Marathons:  Fun runs are an adventurous way to meet new people, raise money for Braille House and challenge your fitness. Organise one yourself or participate in one of the many hundred held across Australia every year – here’s a link to just a few.  Add to the fun by putting together a team with a Dotty themed running gear.  Ready- set- go Dotty!

A-thon Event: a-thons work pretty much the same – either alone or with others seek friends, family, work colleagues, church congregations and anyone else you know to sponsor you (and your team) for the time or amount of the chosen activity you achieve during the nominated timeframe.  If you are crafty get sponsored 10 hours of craft making; Dance groups can raise money for 10 hours of dancing; or if you are a bit of a couch potato get sponsored for watching 10 hours of TV – you get the picture.  A-thons are a great way to have fun whilst going a bit Dotty!
